What is EMDR Therapy?

Developed in 1987...

  • EMDR therapy is a comprehensive psychotherapy that accelerates the treatment of a wide range of symptoms and clinical issues including those related to disturbing events and present life conditions.
  • EMDR therapy is guided by the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Theory, which posits that unprocessed memories appear to set the basis for a wide range of clinical symptomatology, with the exception of pathology originating from organic dysfunction.
  • A number of neurophysiological studies have documented the rapid post treatment EMDR therapy effects.
Unprocessed memories not only can intensify our sensations and emotional responses, they can also prevent us from feeling.
- Dr. Francine Shapiro, developer of EMDR Therapy
